Eastern Creek Detention Tanks

Truedek offers a speedier way for Speedway Detention Tanks

The speedway adjacent to the M4 at Granville in Sydney, Valvoline Raceway had been a popular attraction for Motor Sport fans since it was opened in the late 1970’s, however due to a compulsory Crown Land acquisition by Sydney Metro for a major rail development in 2019, the venue was relocated to the Eastern Creek Motor Sport Park, 19k further west.

The project was commissioned by the NSW Government and built adjacent to the existing Sydney Dragway and Sydney Motorsport Park by Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure.

Part of the Speedway track infrastructure requirement is fast access to large volumes of water for dust maintenance, site irrigation and fire prevention, so two large underground Detention Tanks were designed, approximately 25m square and 3.5m deep, one on the inside of the track circuit and a second on the external perimeter of the premises.

Dincel Civil Solutions designed the structural concrete walls and Truedek® Steel Decking was involved in the design and manufacture of the top suspended slabs, each 550m2, consisting of TD140mm Truedek Steel Decking panels and Infill in an unpropped Truss/Pan/Truss configuration to span the 4.5m distance.

The tanks have been a major success as part of a larger construction project and will each contain over 1.2 million litres of water.

The formwork installation and concreting was undertaken by Proform Group at Wetherill Park, headed by Managing Director, George Mansour.
